Cadets

If you're aged between 10 and 15, why not come and join our Saturday morning Cadets, where RYA trained coaches will help you learn and practice all things sailing.

Cadets is open to any ability, with each session designed with the sailing experience, sailing ability and weather conditions in mind.

During each session our RYA-trained coaches will help you have safe fun afloat, while practicing sailing skills from the four stages of the RYA Youth Scheme.

Parents/guardians of all Cadets are expected to stay and help with rigging the boats, getting them on the water, de-rigging and putting the boats away, as well as helping out with a variety of other tasks to help the youngsters get the most out of this time. Training will be provided.

As you can see from the Cadet Club Calendar, on-the-water Cadet sessions are held on Saturday mornings, between April and July and during September. Certificates and any special awards are presented to members at their own Awards Evening in October.

If you're new to sailing you'll need some basic kit. For summer sailing, we recommend a full wet suit with arms and legs, sailing type boots, gloves, a spray top and a warm hat. If you're changing at the club, don't forget a towel. We can provide buoyancy aids, but it's better if you have one of your own.

If you're not sure whether Cadets is for you, feel free to visit us one Saturday to see what we do, or email training@lossc.org.uk for more information.

We have a limited number of club boats available for use during the training sessions, including Toppers, Fevas and Zests. If you'd like to know more about our boats, or advice about where to buy a new or second-hand boat, please contact us at training@lossc.org.uk.

The cost for the full Cadet sailing programme is just £95 per person.

All Cadet members must either hold a young persons' club membership or have a parent or guardian who is a member of the Club. Please take a look at Memberships if you're not already a member.

Please Note
A parent or guardian MUST be present at the Signal Station for young people aged 13 or under.
It is expected that a responsible adult will remain on hand for ALL Cadet members to provide support for their activities.
