RS400 Lee-on-Solent Sailing Club / Warsash Sailing Club interclub event, 13 September 2020

Stemming from an idea by David Swift of Warsash Sailing Club (WSC) and Annabel Darch of Lee-on-the-Solent Sailing Club (LOSSC) the inaugural interclub event between the two clubs proved popular, with 7 Warsash and 13 Lee entries making the short trip to the race area. The races were held in neutral territory roughly half way between the two clubs, on the Solent off Hill Head, with a Force 2 to 3 and bright sunshine throughout

    Club Regatta

We are pleased to confirm that LOSSC's Club Regatta will be taking place over the weekend of 5th and 6th September. Traditionally a two-day event, this year we will be splitting the fleets, to ensure we are Covid-secure. The Fast Handicap fleet (PY under 950) will race on the Saturday, followed by the Medium Handicap (PY950 - 1139) and Slow Handicap (PY1140+) fleets racing together on the Sunday. The Signal

    BAR RE-OPENING

The signal station bar will be opening Saturday 4th July at lunch time. It has been a long time since we have been able to meet our friends and it will be good to catch up. The Signal Station is going to look very different and this will only work with the co-operation and common sense of those that use the facility. The Process in Summary 1. Sanitising

    Back on the Water

The month of May saw a lot of good sailing weather, which has meant dinghy and yacht sailors alike have been able to get out on the water. We have also seen members windsurfing, out on paddle boards, working on their boats or simply relaxing on the beach. It has been so good to see people 'for real' and I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped

    NOTICE FOR RETURN TO SAILING

We are keen to encourage and support our members back onto the water, but this will only be possible with members' co-operation. It is essential that as a club, we adhere to current government advice, particularly with regard to social distancing, hygiene and the potential impact on the emergency services. It is also essential that we are seen to be keeping within these guidelines by the general public. In

    QUIZ NIGHT

Monday 11th May saw another lively and very closely fought quiz night. Despite the change from our usual day, we still had eleven teams - including two joining us for the first time - the Halls and the Starrs. There were four rounds: Geography and History, Famous names, Sayings and their origins, and Colours - with a bonus point round of photographs of well-known people when they were younger. On the

    LOSSC Commemorates VE Day

While club members could not be at the Club in person to commemorate VE Day, LOSSC Commodore, Barry Easton-Corke, assisted by long-standing club member Ric Hanslip, made sure the Signal Station was appropriately dressed to show our respects for the men and women who fought and lived through the war.

    LOSSC and VE Day

LOSSC Trustee Jerry Wells wrote the following to commemorate VE Day - a very interesting and evocative insight into VE Day in Lee 75 years ago. It was late in the afternoon of 7th May 1945 that the BBC interrupted its scheduled radio programmes to announce that Nazi Germany had signed the document of unconditional surrender and that the war in Europe would end at one minute after midnight the
