This weekend saw the LOSSC Club Regatta, a 2 day event that saw some great racing, different courses and some great sailing conditions.

Richard Filer and his race team did a great job organising 5 races, testing the abilities of the sailors both physically and mentally with the list of buoys each person had to remember in each race it's been a while since the course have had to be written down and taken out with you

Well done Richard, it was great fun

Saturday saw 3 races completed in great Lee on the Solent conditions with 3 fleets and a total of 30 boats competing.

The weekend also saw the return of the Regatta Dinner and Dance on Saturday evening, this year with a Caribbean theme, which proved a great success with thanks going to DJ Andy Mac (cool DJ name still to be decided suggestions on a postcard please) and Musician Alan Finlan. Thanks also to Wendy and her amazing team behind the bar for bringing a piece of the Caribbean to the club Function Room and making specialty cocktails which were enjoyed by everyone. Most of whom weren't too disappointed for the extra time to recover on Sunday morning due to the strong winds causing a postponement of a few hours.

After the initial postponement the 3 fleets ventured back out onto the Solent in stronger conditions than the first day which gave the opportunity to sail some bigger more complicated courses. Again the race team did a great job of getting in 2 races, but ran out of time to get in a 3rd and final race of the day, although I think most were happy for the chance to catch their breath with a well deserved drink in the main clubhouse by that stage.

Well done to all that took part and to the winners of each class who got to take home some fancy new Regatta trophies, all of which will be up for grabs again next year and many more years to come.

Thanks to Rooster for supplying vouchers for the top 3 boats in each class and to Goslings for making delicious rum for the spot prizes!

Class winners:

Fast Handicap - RS400 - Neil Bevington and Alan Skeens

Medium Handicap - Phantom - Edward Child

Slow Handicap - Quba - Jamie Robinson

The Graham Child Award, awarded for stand-out performance of the weekend went to Mark Robinson in his Phantom

For a full list of race results please see the club website.

Thank you to all the volunteers that helped out throughout the weekend, as without them none of the above would have been possible, with a massive thank you to Ed Child for taking on the overall organisation of the Regatta.
