Published 14:49 on 29 Nov 2025
The Sailing Club's latest Friday night event "Snooker Teams Night" launched in style, with twelve players filling the snooker room. Two teams of six took to the tables, each player set for one singles and one doubles match.
Team A: Adrian, Dave, Mark, Gordon, Jemima, Paul
Team B: Andy, Peter, Chas, Wendy, Chris, Ron
Singles
18:30 Matches
The night began with Paul getting Team A on the scoreboard, winning against Wendy with some tidy potting. Gordon followed it up with a composed win over Chris, giving Team A an early 2-0 lead.
19:00 Matches
A hard-fought frame between Ron and Jemima produced one of the standout battles of the evening, with Ron just taking it at the end. Adrian then faced Peter, and after opening up a strong early lead, Adrian held firm to secure the frame. Team A moved to 3-1 ahead.
19:30 Matches
Former club champions Andy and Dave (parachuted in for a guest performance) went to a pink-ball finish, with Dave coming from behind to win it in the end. Meanwhile, Chas put in a confident performance to beat Mark and keep Team B within reach. At the break, Team A led 4-2.
Players paused for the meat raffle and a friendly knockabout before the doubles resumed with some taking the opportunity to sample the new chef's food too.
Doubles
20:30 Matches
Andy and Wendy teamed up well to get the first doubles win for Team B, overcoming their handicap against Mark and Paul. Wendy also claimed "shot of the night" with her decision to send the pink around four cushions despite not being snookered and somehow missing the black on the way.
Adrian and Jemima responded immediately for Team A, playing well together to defeat Peter and Ron. That put Team A 5-3 ahead heading into the final frame.
Final Doubles Match
The concluding match saw Chris and Chas take on Dave and Gordon. A well-timed break of 26 from Dave swung momentum firmly toward Team A and secured the overall result.
Final Score: Team A win 6-3
A night of great snooker. The format worked well, giving players both time on the table and time at the bar, enjoying the meat raffle and being in the club for the snowball draw.
Shot of the night: Wendy
Match of the night: Ron vs Jemima
Highest break: Dave (26)
Well done to Team A, commiserations to Team B and it was good to see that everyone left asking when the next teams night will be.
