RIBS

Over the last few months, the RIB team have been hard at work, with the emphasis on the Orange Searider which has had a full refurbishment (thanks to Kevin Clark).

A wonderful job has been done on the hull of the Searider... it really is as good as, if not better, than new!

It has also been furnished with a new Suzuki 40hp 4-stroke engine, the same as fitted to the grey Searider. The new engine replaces the Honda 40hp which was entering its twelfth year and had started to give some issues. Hopefully the new engine will proved as reliable as its sister (now coming into its fourth year).

Alongside this we have also replaced the ageing and smelly Tohatsu 70hp 2-stroke outboard on Big RIB with another Suzuki, this time a 70 HP 4-stroke. This should enable quieter and more economic running as well as meaning that all three engines are identical in terms of operation just turn the key!

Both the new engines started their initial run-in sequence with the JETs last weekend (outboards are a bit behind new car engines in this respect) and should be fully usable for the start of the season. Both of the replaced engines have been sold to recover some funds. Hopefully we will now manage a few seasons with few or no engine issues.

Footnote: RIB drivers: All three RIBs have brand new propellers... it would be great if they were still pristine come the end of the season!
