Stemming from an idea by David Swift of Warsash Sailing Club (WSC) and Annabel Darch of Lee-on-the-Solent Sailing Club (LOSSC) the inaugural interclub event between the two clubs proved popular, with 7 Warsash and 13 Lee entries making the short trip to the race area. The races were held in neutral territory roughly half way between the two clubs, on the Solent off Hill Head, with a Force 2 to 3 and bright sunshine throughout providing ideal conditions.

Race 1, Steve and Sarah Cockerill showed everyone how it should be done with a 1st place in race 1, Mark and Julie Tucker 2nd and Neil Bevington and Sarah Kingston in 3rd.

LOSSC taking the first 6 places in race 1, Warsash realised they needed to raise their game from the slumber of an extended off season. In Race 2 the first two places were a repeat of the first race with Steve and Sarah, and Mark and Julie taking 1st and 2nd respectively, but Andy Le Grice and Dan Wealthy put in a more competitive 3rd place for Warsash.

Race 3 again Steve and Sarah demonstrated their continuing dominance with 1st place, Ed Child and Alan Skeens taking 2nd for Lee, and Andy and Dan again posting a 3rd.

Annabel Darch deserves a special mention: 18 years old and showed good boat handling in her first open event helming a 400.

Thanks to Warsash for providing the committee boat and Lee for providing safety cover for this informal event, which proved great fun for all concerned and a decent turnout for a very strange year.

Surely we need a repeat match in 2021?.

And, if you want good 400 racing with a friendly bunch on the South Coast you are spoilt for choice with strong fleets at both Warsash and Lee-on-Solent.
