World renowned sailing coach, Jon Emmett, came to LOSSC on the 9th December to talk about making the most of your dinghy training.
Jon Emmett is a professional sailing coach. He currently coaches Tuula Tenkanen from Finland and previously coached Lijia Xu from China, culminating in her winning the Gold medal at the 2012 Olympics.
Jon still races himself and in 2019 was UK National Champion, Apprentice Masters European Champion and Apprentice Masters World Champion.
Jon also wrote Be your Own Coach some years ago and has since updated it to Coach Yourself to Win which is a blueprint to improve your sailing and help you achieve your aims, be it club or international success.
Jon has helped people at all level of sailing, with his approach of looking at how to make the most out of every hour you have when training.
Jon began the evening with a brief introduction, followed by inviting the audience to ask him questions about how to improve their sailing.
There was no shortage of questions from the floor - with questions from Aero, Laser and Phantom and RS400 sailors, asking for advice on areas covering many different aspects of sailing, including quality of the equipment, effectiveness of tell tails, the required amount of training, optimum weight, how to beat the competition, and where to get advice.
Without a doubt, Jon's main advice was to maintain your fitness levels, to look after your equipment, and to make sure you have fun.
