The Thursday evening Social Racing sessions provide an introduction to racing in a sociable, supportive environment.
They are suitable for all levels - novice, intermediate and expert. Your standard of sailing is not important, as long as you are able to get around a course on all points of sail.
This is an ideal opportunity to venture into racing and compete against other sailors in a low key and relaxed environment. The aim is to have fun at the same time as developing racing skills.
The sessions are not simply about racing, but about improving boat handling skills, getting to know your boat and feeling more confident on the water.
Each session will begin with a briefing, which will look at the tide, wind, course and starting sequence.
Experienced sailors from the club will be on hand to help with advice on boat preparation, sailing manoeuvres, racing rules, tactics and how to get a good start.
A Social Sailing session will run at the same time, so you can choose whether you want to race or simply enjoy the chance to take your boat out. No booking needed.
Fun Grand Prix
New for 2020 we're introducing a fun Grand Prix for novices and above. This will be held over four evenings, starting on 7 May. On each evening there will be three short, sharp team races using club boats. The Grand Prix is aimed at building skills, team spirit and racing knowledge. If you would like to take part, book your place here.
All Thursday evening sessions are free to all sailing members of the club.
Sessions will begin in May. Please aim to arrive by 6 pm, and be ready for the briefing at 6.30 pm.
Boats should be rigged and ready to go on the water by 7 pm.
A patrol boat will be on the water between 7 pm and 8.30 pm.
Please see the Race Training Calendar for more details of each session and come and join us on the water. There is no need to book, simply turn up on the evening. If you hope to use a club boat, please arrive early to avoid disappointment.
We hope as you develop your sailing skills, you'll feel confident to take part in the Start Racing Regattas, the Fun Races, and even the Tuesday or Saturday club racing, whether in the class fleets or the new novice starts.
