RYA Start/Intermediate Racing
The RYA Start/Intermediate Racing course is for sailors who have achieved the RYA stages and are looking to try their hands at racing.
The course will be run by some of our expert instructors and advanced sailors, this is not only a way to take your sailing to the next level, but also a fantastic opportunity to meet other members, while improving your sailing in a supportive, friendly environment.
The course takes place on Saturday mornings. It caters for single and double-handed boats and is open to adults with RYA Level 2 or Youth Stage 4.
The aim is to have fun while developing your racing skills as well as working towards the RYA Start Racing or Intermediate Racing Award.
We will cover the basics of racing, both theory and on the water. We will look at boat preparation, the starting signal sequence, how to get the perfect start, tides, wind, tactics and occasionally some rules! We may also look at more advanced boat handling, spinnaker work, and making the boat go faster.
We encourage you to also join the Thursday evening Race Development sessions to practice the skills you are learning on Saturdays.
By the end of the course, once you are more confident with your newfound knowledge, we hope to see you join club racing on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons, either in the class fleets or in the Development start.
Whether it's for racing or cruising you will definitely be sailing better by the end of the course.
All sessions will have patrol boat cover.
